Tara Heal

Yoga/Wellbeing

Tara was drawn to New York City after earning a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from The University of Michigan, a year in the UK studying Shakespeare, and a burning passion for storytelling, theatre, music and movement.

For 15 years, she worked as an actor in NYC, regionally, and on tour. Alongside performing, Tara taught theatre camps for kids, private voice lessons, and helped create The Song Gym, an audition class for professional peers.  By 2008, she earned her first of many Yoga certifications and to date, is accredited with the Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and Teacher Trainer) with over 1200 hours of study. Yoga has long been an essential tool for nurturing her sense of self worth, tenacity, and creativity as an artist, and she feels compelled to share this practice with others. Through the pillars of presence, intentional movement, and a positive mindset, she seeks to illuminate the inner strength and peace vital to young artists in this demanding field.

On stage, Tara’s credits include collaboration with stellar creatives such as Jack O’Brien and Jerry Mitchell while in the role of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray (w/ Harvey Fierstein), with director Darko Tresnjak in Comedy of Errors at Hartford Stage, and under the direction of Kristin Hanggi in the Pre-Bway workshop Hollywood Romance. She originated the role of Young Sophie Tucker in the NYC Workshop of Sophie: The Last of the Red Hot Mamas. Tara appeared in Carnival! (Kennedy Center, Washington D.C.), Peter Pan and Beauty and the Beast (Alabama Shakespeare Festival), productions with The MUNY, Long Leaf Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Music Theatre of Connecticut, and Transcendence Theatre in Sonoma, California. National Tours include Clifford the Big Red Dog- Live!, The Wizard of Oz, and Broadway contracts at sea with Royal Caribbean where she again starred in Hairspray and later appeared as Annette in Saturday Night Fever.

Tara relocated to Victoria with her husband in 2017 to soak in more nature and start a family. Her current mission is to offer tools to help foster resilience, focus, and balance. She delivers grounding movement classes that are non-performative and non-competitive with a safe space to connect and reflect. She is delighted to join the team at CCPA to guide mindfulness practices for a happy, healthy journey as students of the performing arts today, and as life-long creative individuals.
